Pro Tip: Breathe. Smile

Breathe.

Smile.

While much of the world shrieks worry and bigmad (apparently, there’s money to be made from that) I do not need to be a warrior here … inside my head. The only demons and enemies and fiends herein are my unique creations and they are weak and fleeting and exist only as excuses for my own complacency.

While my fellow citizens seem to march to the demands of their horrors and proclaim their self-appointed grievances, I do not need to be a victim here … inside my head. In creating oppressors we seek to explain our deficiencies – perhaps even live out the fears of our original caregivers. I choose the missions for which I volunteer in life and they must be honest ones.

While the world forever and everywhere persistently seeks a savior, I do not need to be or have a hero … you know, here inside my head. I simply need to know that my motives are without malice and let others interpret them as they might.

While it may be more convenient to seek affirmation from the mirrors with which I have surrounded myself, I continue to learn to rely upon the innate tranquility that some have called the “soul” … that essence of energy that is timeless, shapeless and infinite and which emanates from within. I feel it when I breathe … and smile.

It is the ongoing folly of humanity that we, with our tiny, insignificant hands and intellects would try to grasp the Universe yet be so averse to something so doable as replacing fear – with all its complications and strings and conditions – with the simplicity of unconditional love.

The latter is an abiding quest, for sure. And I will continue to expect it of myself … you know, here inside my head … where it really matters.

Breathe.

Smile.

It could be that the last breath of every mortal becomes part of an eternal song sung by Angels. – s
