Course: The Accountability Reset – The Purposeful Adult at Work

Instructions for Registrants: This diagnostic is designed to audit your everyday management defaults. For each of the eight scenarios below, select the response that honestly reflects how you typically handle the situation in your current home office or organizational environment. There are no “right” or “wrong” answers—only honest assessments that will drive our live peer-to-peer dialogue.

Operational Situations & Management Defaults

A critical project report or deliverable is submitted by a direct report, but the quality is subpar or missing key components.

A. You rewrite or heavily edit the document yourself because "it’s faster if I just do it right," and you need to hit the deadline.

B. You accept it as-is to protect their feelings or maintain morale, planning to fix the fallout later.

C. You return it immediately, point out the specific variances from the agreed-upon standards, and establish a firm, un-maskable deadline for them to resubmit the corrected work.

An unexpected bottleneck occurs on a project, and a team member comes to your desk or calls you saying, "We have a massive problem. What do you want me to do?"

A. You immediately jump into firefighter mode, tell them exactly what steps to take, or take over the problem entirely to resolve the crisis.

B. You reassure them that everything will be fine and tell them not to stress, downplaying the operational impact.

C. You stop the narrative and ask: "What is the actual operational issue, what have you already analyzed, and what is your direct recommendation?"

A. You give them highly detailed, step-by-step instructions and check in multiple times a day to monitor their micro-progress.

B. You give them a vague, jargon-heavy description (e.g., "Let's optimize our cross-functional alignment here") to keep the pressure low, hoping they figure it out.

C. You clearly define the boundaries of their "sandbox" (the non-negotiable strategic, financial, and timeline guardrails), establish a clear who, what, and when, and then give them total autonomy over the execution.

A. You lecture or scold them about the importance of timelines, or you begin over-monitoring them with mandatory daily status reports.

B. You cover for them, make excuses regarding their heavy workload, or ignore the issue to avoid an uncomfortable confrontation.

C. You have a direct, jargon-free conversation focused on adult accountability, identifying the specific baseline standard that was missed and asking what roadblock they need you to clear so they can fix it.

A. You require them to get your explicit sign-off and permission for every minor configuration choice or step in the rollout.

C. You establish their explicit spend threshold and regulatory boundaries, and then expect them to fully own the implementation and outcomes.
